Appearance[edit | edit source]

Traveller Heads — From left to right and top to bottom: Artemis, Apollo, -null- and the Quicksilver Synthesis Companion

Traveller Heads — From left to right and top to bottom: Big Eyes, Bugface, Cathead, Deep Sea, Deer and Hammerhead

There are 22 different «species» that comprise the Travellers, most Travellers have slim humanoid bodies and the same average height, but besides that their physical features can greatly vary. They have been found with cat-like, bug-like, and amphibious-like facial features, or even entirely alien or with robotic heads. Artemis is a traveller whose appearance is very similar to stereotypical Rosewel Grey aliens, while Apollo is a traveller whose body was almost entirely replaced by a mechanical casing, and -null- has a body that seems to be composed of large wires and computer plugs.

SPOILER ALERT: All NPC Travellers seem to appear as holographic displays rather than physical bodies, when they guide the player to a grave, it is revealed that the Travellers that gave them the directions are dead.

Crafting tips[edit | edit source]

  • Craft the Boltcaster or Blaze Javelin in your Multi-tool inventory to gain the combat-side ability. Boltcaster is (unless you upgrade it) similar to a standard fully automatic gun (perhaps an SMG or assault rifle) and Blaze Javelin is more like a semi-automatic rifle, firing slower and dealing more damage per shot.
  • Craft the Plasma Launcher in your Multi-tool inventory to unlock plasma grenades. Place upgrades for the Plasma Launcher in the slots around the Plasma Launcher for bonus damage. Grenades can be used for combat, blasting open doors, or terrain destruction (such as digging a tunnel).
  • Use (x on PC, ∆ on PS4) to pin craftable items/upgrades in inventory (install technology window) so you can easily keep track of what you’re doing.
  • Craft a Signal Booster to manually scan for a Resource Deposit, a , a Habitable Base or a Monolith.
  • You can exploit certain curiosities by refining them and then deconstructing them for their base materials. For example, to refine Destablised Sodium you need 50x Sodium and 50x Sodium Nitrate. Then you can put the Destabilised Sodium back into the Refiner to gain 150x Sodium Nitrate, which you could turn some into regular Sodium and repeat the process.

How to profit[edit | edit source]

Miningedit | edit source

Mining rare Resource Deposits using your multi-tool or mining asteroids with your starship’s weapons is a good way to make money, especially for starting players. Combining the minerals into alloys can raise their value. Harvesting Storm Crystals can be extremely lucrative (with a base value of 156,950.0 units and can be stacked up to 5), but because they only appear in extreme weather planets while a storm is raging, an Exocraft is highly recommended for both shelter against the elements and reaching the next deposit as quickly as possible before the storm ends and the crystals disappear. Caves also provide a place where additional profit may be found; cobalt sells for a good price; you also have a chance of finding gold, silver, or platinum. Finding Salvaged Data can be very lucrative, as each Salvaged Data sells for 50000 units and they usually come in groups of 2 or more.

Scanningedit | edit source

Scanning undiscovered fauna and flora is a viable way to make money once the Analysis Visor upgrades have been installed. Unfortunately, the rewards for uploading discoveries and discovering all fauna on a given planet are not increased with the upgrades.

Farmingedit | edit source

Main article: Farming

Farming is possibly the most profitable activity in the game. Harvestable substances can be combined to craft expensive tradeables.

Commodity Tradingedit | edit source

Selling common goods found in cannisters is an easy way to make money. It’s also possible to trade between systems of different economy types. See «Trading in-depth» below for more details.

Missionsedit | edit source

Completing missions can reward the player units, Nanite Clusters, tradeables or blueprints. Higher standing with the Guilds can unlock missions with higher, more valuable rewards.

Fleet Expeditionsedit | edit source

Sending frigates out on expeditions can reward the player with units, tradeables, valuable metals or metal alloys upon their completion. Trade-focused and Exploration-focused expeditions are more likely to have unit-rewarding encounters than other types of expeditions.

Salvagingedit | edit source

Artifacts can be found as a resource on certain planets, and can be found with the use of the Analysis Visor when nearby, or can be found at Artifact Sites and Ruins. Some more common types of artifact will be listed as a resource when scanning planets from orbit, and can be found in large numbers throughout a planet. While unable to stack, higher value Artifacts can sell for up to 2,000,000+ units and can be sold in any system as they do not greatly vary in price based on system economy. While not as consistent of a way to gain units as some other methods, salvaging and foraging can be great ways to make large chunks of cash quickly, assuming you can find the right kind of planets.

Crashed starships[edit | edit source]

For additional tips

See: Crashed Ship

From time to time, a player may encounter a crashed ship. If the crashed ship is larger or of a better Class or design than the current one, the player may wish to consider abandoning the current ship and taking over the crashed ship. However, the player can just purchase it for 0 credits and keep both.

At first, it might seem that getting a bigger or better ship for free is always a good deal. However, a crashed ship needs extensive repairs to be fully functional and can drain a player’s time and resources.

Several of the crashed ship’s base technologies are damaged. Further the crashed ship always has damaged inventory slots that require more resources to repair before they can be used. The unit cost associated with items needed for inventory repair alone may be more than the net cost to purchase an equivalent vessel at a space station. There is also the cost to dismantle your old technologies and rebuild them in the new crashed ship or rebuild them from scratch to keep them for both. Finally, you will have to refill the empty hyperdrive, pulse engine, launch thruster, phase beam or other weapon, and deflector shield. Even after all this, though, repaired weapons have half the damage output of never-damaged weapons, so you will want to add a new weapon if you plan on using the ship in space combat.

On the other hand, if you find a damaged ship that is much larger than something you could otherwise currently afford at a star station, you can keep it and switch over now and repair the slots one by one as you gradually accumulate more units and resources. Paying a few extra units now to repair a crashed 48-slot S-class Hauler might save a lot of time waiting for one to show up at a star station, if that’s what you ultimately want.

If you do decide to exchange your current ship for a crashed ship you can also just trade it in for a fully repaired ship. Even a beat up massive Hauler can be worth 10 million units and offer the chance to attain a decent Fighter. Of course you can dismantle as many upgrades in the ship as you want beforehand to gain resources.

NMS has significantly changed the way crashed ships are handled with each game revision, and much of the early advice pertaining to crashed ships is now obsolete.

  • Foundation — transmissions can no longer be picked up by signal scanners, making finding crashed ships much more difficult than it was in the initial release.
  • Pathfinder — ship classes now affect inventory space, and as such, a crashed ship is more likely to have a totally random number of slots.
  • Atlas Rises — removed the exploit whereby a ship with multiple damaged inventory slots could be traded in for the same price as an undamaged ship.
  • NEXT — players do not have to exchange their ship for a crashed ship and can’t reattain their own ship if they did exchange it. However, they can just purchase it and keep both to salvage the entire ship or just parts.
  • Synthesis — added a capability to scrap starships, including the crashed ones.

Lore[edit | edit source]

The coming of the Travellers, however unlikely, had been predicted ages ago by the Korvax Echoes.

The Travellers are entities created by the Atlas with a scan of its Creator’s mind. The player character is the last Traveller created. Because of the Atlas’ imminent death, the boundaries between realities are starting to fall apart, and now Travellers can see each other from the past, future, or alternate realities, as hologram-like individuals or as glitches. According to the Rogue Data and the last Traveller interaction, the Atlas correctly predicted that, in the final minutes before its death, the Travellers would finally be able to fully interact with each other and explore galaxies together.

Summary[edit | edit source]

Update 1.2 is the eleventh update to No Man’s Sky released on 8 March 2017 to Playstation 4 and PC.

It is better known as The Path Finder Update, and introduces planetary vehicles, base sharing, PS4 Pro support, ship/weapon specialisation, permadeath mode, and much more. It shows the path for the future.

The previous update is 1.13.

Hidden Changesedit | edit source

A second type of freighter space-battle was implemented that are much bigger. In addition, two new types of super-massive freighters were added, commonly referred to as «Star Destroyers».

Resources Gathering and Mining[edit | edit source]

  • Crashed Ships can be a source for upgrades and materials, although not especially viable they’re still worth visiting. They can be found by solving Transmission Tower puzzles or giving cultural relics (ie, Korvax Casing) to NPC’s in space stations. Each site will yield the following:

    • Nanite Clusters from Damaged Machinery, usually located at the left of the crashed ship when facing it
    • A chance for an additional blueprint or a multi tool from Distress Beacon located at the rear of the crashed ship
    • A crashed ship of random stats (prior to Pathfinder, your own ship’s stats changed crashed ship stats — this is no longer the case). Crashed ships generally have few if any upgrades installed, and will need their broken slots repaired with a variety of resources, most notably Chromatic Metal, Magnetized Ferrite, Platinum, and Paraffinium.
    • Crashed ships can be destroyed for Nanite Clusters and Tropheum with your ship weapons at the cost of some standing with the species in charge of the system.

Freighters[edit | edit source]

  • Freighters can be called and warped into any system, regardless of distance from previous warp, provided it has the appropriate warp drive upgrades if it is being called into a red, green, or blue star system. Make sure you have enough space to call your freighter and it’s not too close to another fleet or station.
  • The first Freighter you save from pirates is offered to the player for free, and It will always be a regular freighter containing 15-19 slots at a price range of 5M to 23M from C to S class, and If the first rescued freighter is refused, the second freighter will also be offered to the player for free, and it will be a capital freighter containing 24-34 slots at a price range of 26M to 178M from C to S class.

Pre 1.5 only: Build Red Canisters on your Freighter for a steady supply of Suspension Fluid, Electron Vapour, Antimatter, or even Warp Cells no matter where you go. These can be found under the «Decorations» section in the build menu. They recharge in 1 hour (turning yellow at the 30 minute mark), and change their output whenever you move your freighter.

NEXT Update[edit | edit source]

  • If you’re starting the update from an old save, you will spawn without your base. Follow these steps to get your previous base back:
    • Select the base building quest in your mission log. If you don’t select the quest you won’t be able to retrieve your base
    • Fly down to a planet’s surface and use your scanner. You will locate a Base Computer. Fly to the location
    • Activate the base computer and choose the option to retrieve your previous base.
  • If you cannot craft a beacon, take a screenshot while scanning the location (hold F). The Scanner interface contains the planet name (top left) as well as latitude and longitude (top right), which you can use to find a location again.
  • In order to build a new base from scratch, you need to craft a Base Computer using Chromatic Metal, which can be obtained by using specific metals in a Portable Refiner.
  • You can switch between first- and third-person views under the quick menu, in the «Utilities» section.
  • Most crafting materials and recipes have changed from the previous update, so take your time to learn and understand the new systems.
  • You cannot use a space station teleporter before building your first base, and teleporter locations from a previous save have been wiped. To teleport back from visited locations from your base you will need to craft a Teleporter, which can be found in the base building menu. You will need to refine Cobalt into Ionised Cobalt.
  • You can change your appearance in a space station.
  • New deployable technology like the Portable Refiner can be stored in your inventory to be used again later, which means you only need to craft them once.
  • Harvesting Deuterium gives the player a short jetpack boost, which can help you travel greater distances using the jetpack+melee combo.
  • Teleporter locations can be sorted by type (space station or bases).
  • When underwater, Kelp Sac plants recharge oxygen when interacted with.
  • Collect Navigation Data and use it in a Signal Booster to find new locations.

Patch Notes[edit | edit source]

  • Improved the text labels for armoured objects.
  • Added a filter for “Not Owned” to the Quicksilver Shop.
  • Fixed an issue which would allow players to browse their existing fleet whilst purchasing a new frigate.
  • Fixed a rare case where certain game inputs could temporarily fail to be recognised if remapped then reverted to defaults.
  • Prevented an erroneous boost icon appearing while piloting the Nautilon (on PS4 and Xbox One).

Planets and Discoveriesedit | edit source

  • Fixed an issue where extreme weather planets could fail to generate storms.
  • Improved the distribution of ammonia and uranium on toxic and radioactive planets.
  • Improved some analysis visor text descriptions.
  • Fixed an issue where the terrain manipulator could destroy valuable objects.

  • Fixed an issue where resource crystals (eg Di-Hydrogen) could be rediscovered on every planet.
  • Fixed an issue where many minerals would be called Yukovsite.
  • Allowed the torch to be used when exploring crashed freighters.

Visualsedit | edit source

  • Fixed an issue where exocraft customisation colours could be incorrect until refreshed in the customiser.
  • Fixed a rendering issue with oversized fungi.
  • Fixed an issue where stationary objects could sometimes appear blurred.
  • Improved the draw distance on some exotic planet objects.

Analysis Visor[edit | edit source]

  • Craft the Analysis Visor as soon as possible! This will allow you to flag resources in the area and save you a lot of time lurking around and memorizing element symbols.
  • Using your Analysis Visor on a planet will allow you to find hidden resource deposits and buried treasures. It can also help you find deployable technology if you forgot where you placed it.
  • Earn units easily but slowly by using the Analysis Visor (L2 on PS4 or F on PC) on wildlife, vegetation and rocks to discover them.
  • When looking for specific buildings, Monoliths, crash sites or other sites on a planet, use your Analysis Visor, just as if you were scanning for flora or fauna. Without scanning anything else, get in your ship and fly around the planet. You will see white dots on your HUD of POI’s associated with that building.
  • The in-game time appears on the right side of the Analysis Visor screen (Right Mouse Button or L2/LT on controller) as well as your current coordinates on the planet.
  • Using your Analysis Visor on an unknown POI (question mark) will tell you what kind of waypoint it is. Hold E Or X on Xbox to keep the marker visible on your HUD
  • The Analysis Visor can help you detect Hazardous Flora when you are exploring, so make sure to check your Analysis Visor often to check for it.

Summary[edit | edit source]

Units are the primary currency in No Man’s Sky, with Nanite Cluster and Quicksilver being the secondary.

Units can be used to purchase new starships, freighters and frigates from aliens; resources and products from the Galactic Trade Terminals; exosuit and multi-tool upgrades; and occasionally in interactions with aliens. The player can earn units in a variety of ways:

  • Scanning newly discovered species of flora and fauna or rock formations with the Analysis Visor.
  • Uploading newly discovered waypoints, star systems, planets, or moons
  • Selling and trading resources mined, collected, or scavenged from planets or Space Fleets.
  • Interacting with certain devices in alien buildings
  • Completing missions (usually from the Mission Board) which reward units
  • Collecting bounties on fugitive Pirates
  • As a reward from certain interactions with aliens
