In the United Kingdom, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe debuted at No. 1 on the sales chart, making it the first Nintendo game to be No. 1 in the UK since 2011’s Pokémon White Version, and the first Mario game to place such since Mario Kart Wii.

The game sold 459,000 copies for its US launch day, making it the fastest-selling Mario Kart game in the US and meaning 45% of US Switch owners purchased the game.

As of December 31, 2017, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe had sold 7.33 million units worldwide. On March 31, 2018, it reached 9.22 million units, exceeding the original Mario Kart 8s 8.42 million and making it the second best-selling game on the Nintendo Switch behind Super Mario Odyssey. As of January 31, 2019, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has sold 15.02 million units worldwide, exceeding the sales of Super Mario Odyssey and making it the best-selling first-party game on the Nintendo Switch. As of September 2019, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold 19.01 million units worldwide. As of the end of December 2019, the game sold over 22.96 million units making it the first Nintendo Switch game to ever cross the 20 million mark. By the end of March , the game reached 24.77 million unit sold worldwide. As of June 30th, 2020 the game has sold more than 26.74 million units.

Awards and acknowledgements

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was nominated for the «Best Family Game» and «Best Multiplayer» awards at The Game Awards 2017. However, it won neither, losing the former to Super Mario Odyssey and the latter to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

Tracks

Super Mario Kart features a total of 20 race tracks, divided into four cups of five each. Tracks with numbers are part of a series, which means that all tracks with the same name but different numbers are set in the same universe, and as such share the same name, background, track elements, enemies, obstacles and music theme. This was due to the SNES hardware limitations of the time, that did not allow the original Mario Kart game from having all-distinctive courses. The game could only handle eight different universes, and Rainbow Road is the only one that has an entire universe for its own, having an exclusive background, enemies (Rainbow Thwomps), name and theme song. In Mario Kart DS and so on, the original console abbreviation (SNES) is put before the track name (ex. SNES Donut Plains 3). In later games after this one, cups only have four courses instead of five.

	Topf-Piranha-Pflanze	Ein eher selten auftretendes Item in Super Mario 3D World wurde in Mario Kart 8 neu verwendet. Die Piranha-Pflanze sitzt an der Vorderseite des Karts und schnappt nach anderen Charakteren, Bananenschalen oder Schildkrötenpanzern, mit denen die Gegner werfen. Sobald die Pflanze zum Beißen nach vorne schnellt, macht auch das Kart einen Satz vorwärts. Man erhält sie auf den mittleren bis letzten Plätzen (2. bis 9. Platz).
	Wunderacht	Die Wunderacht erfüllt eine sehr ähnliche Funktion wie die Glückssieben. Doch statt nur sieben Items kann man mit ihr gleich 8 Items auf einmal bekommen (2. bis 12. Platz). Sie enthält folgende Items: Banane, Grüner und Roter Panzer, Turbo-Pilz, Blooper, Bomb-Omb, Stern, Münze.
	Superhupe	Die Superhupe entsendet eine Druckwelle, die die anderen Fahrer erwischt. Darüber hinaus ist es mit ihr möglich feindliche Items, wie den Grünen Panzer, den Roten Panzer und sogar den übermächtigen Stachi-Panzer abzuwehren. Für all das muss man das Item nur einsetzen, jedoch geht es nach einmaligem Gebrauch verloren. Man erhält ihn auf den mittleren bis vorderen Plätzen (7. bis 1. Platz)

Gameplay

Super Mario Kart can be played by one or two players. All gameplay uses a forced split-screen view. In single-player mode, the top part of the screen displays the course in behind-kart view, while the bottom half of the screen can either display a rear-view mirror perspective, or an overhead view of the whole track, displaying where all the racers are at the moment. In multiplayer, the bottom screen is assigned to the second player’s view.

Modes

Single Player Modes

Mario GP

Super Mario Kart Award Ceremony. You get a trophy AND champagne bottles!

The first single-player mode is Mario GP (later known as Grand Prix), in which one player races seven computer-controlled drivers. Engine classes of 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc are available, but 150cc must be unlocked by beating the game in 100cc difficulty. Larger engines result in faster vehicles and as such a greater level of difficulty. There are four cups to select: the Mushroom Cup, the Flower Cup, the Star Cup, and the Special Cup. The Special Cup must be unlocked by winning gold in the other three Cups, in 100cc mode. Each cup consists of five tracks, and the player must finish the race in fourth place or better to advance to the next track. Racers ranked fifth to last are «RANKED OUT» and are forced to either use a continue to try again if applicable (Thus so losing a kart), or retire and end the game. All tracks are five laps long. If the player presses & at the same time, the selected character will be small until the player presses the buttons together again.

Mario GP scoring process

In order to win the cup, the player must have the highest total number of points at the end of the fifth track of the cup. Points are awarded at the end of each track, as follows :

1. 9 points,
2. 6 points,
3. 3 points,
4. 1 point.

Ending the cup in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gives the player the gold, silver or bronze cup respectively, while ending in 4th does not award any cup. The character is shown during the award ceremony near the podium, crying while the first three CPU racers celebrate and rejoice, with a special theme played and a text displayed on-screen. No cup is awarded in this case, and therefore the player must restart the entire cup, in hopes of achieving a better performance.

Time Trial

Time Trial mode has the player race through one track of his/her own choice, with the racer of its choice, in an attempt to set a record for the best lap or overall course time. Due to the SNES’s hardware limitations, the times recorded are deleted as soon the console is turned off. All items are taken out in this mode, and so the times achieved rely solely on driving skills. If the driving session is perfect (no falling, spin out or offroad), the ghost can eventually reappear on following sessions, allowing the player to further improve his/her driving skills.

Mario GP

Mario GP mode plays just like the single-player version, but with one less computer-controlled driver. In order to proceed to the next track, only one player must rank in the top four. The first player will receive a Game Over if they rank out three times, and the other player continues alone.

In Battle Mode, two players choose from four battle arenas specially designed for Battle Mode and try to pop the three balloons surrounding the other player (representing their lives) by hitting them with items such as Koopa shells or banana peels. The last player with at least one balloon wins.

Quad

Mario Kart — простая игра

Пользователям Mario Kart 8 Deluxe повезло — в отличие от Mario Kart 8 на Wii U, здесь не нужно открывать персонажей. С самого начала доступны все сорок два гонщика. Начать играть очень просто: достаточно выбрать персонажа, затем подобрать для него средство передвижения, колеса и планер.
Нажмите на кнопку «-» или «+», и вам покажут пять параметров: скорость, ускорение, масса, управляемость и проходимость. Здесь же можно включить смарт-управление, одно из нововведений в Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, оно может помочь начинающим гонщикам. Благодаря ему вы не будете вылетать с трассы, ИИ поведет машину за вас.
Вторая новинка Deluxe-версии — автоускорение, при котором не нужно постоянно держать кнопку «А». Эти функции подойдут для тех, кто планирует играть в Mario Kart с маленькими детьми, так им будет легче учиться. Единственная проблема со смарт-управлением и автоускорением — они включены по умолчанию, и об этом нигде не говорится. Это может сбить с толку тех, кто с удивлением обнаружит, что карт едет ровно по трассе сам по себе. Так что, если вам эти функции не нужны, не забудьте выключить их.

В Mario Kart 8 Deluxe четыре одиночных режима, локальный мультиплеер, онлайновый мультиплеер и беспроводная игра. Оттачивать свои навыки лучше всего в одиночных «Гран-при», «На время», «Гонке» и «Бою». В «Гран-при» и «Гонке» можно выбрать скорость передвижения гонщиков по трассе: 50, 100, 150 или 200 кубов.
К слову, в Wii U-версии 200 кубов добавили лишь в одном из обновлений, а тут все доступно сразу. Ну а если вам хочется больше разнообразия, можно поставить зеркальные трассы, правда, доступны они только на скорости 150. В «Гран-при» двенадцать кубков, в каждом из которых вам нужно пройти четыре трассы.
Всего в игре сорок восемь трасс: оригинальные локации Mario Kart 8 и ремастеры маршрутов из предыдущих игр. К сожалению, полноценных новых треков в Deluxe-версию не добавили. Но это заметят лишь те, кто играл в Mario Kart 8 на Wii U.
Режим «Гонка» предлагает вам гибкую настройку соревнования: от четырех до сорока восьми заездов, три уровня сложности ботов, скорость и трассы. Последние можно выбирать самому, включить случайно или поставить по порядку. «Гонка» очень полезна для тренировок!
В режиме «На время» вам позволят проехать любую трассу в одиночку на скорости 150 или 200 кубов — естественно, на время. Свой рекорд можно загрузить в интернет и сравнить с достижениями других игроков. У самых успешных участников можно даже перенять опыт! Просто скачайте запись чужого заезда, чтобы узнать, как другому игроку удалось сократить свое время.

В «Шаробое» главное — прицелиться.

Еще одна новинка Mario Kart 8 Deluxe — режим «Бой». Здесь вам предложат пять видов соревнований, каждый со своими особенностями.
В «Шаробое» к гонщикам прикреплены воздушные шары. Лопайте у противников шарики и выводите их из игры, чтобы победить. «Погоня с пираньями» — разновидность игры с полицейскими и ворами. Стражи правопорядка должны догнать нарушителей и поймать всех, а те, в свою очередь, обязаны продержаться отведенное время. В «Боб-омб битве» в вашем арсенале останутся только бомбы. А еще здесь игроков ждут шары, прямо как в «Шаробое».
В режиме «Время — деньги» победит тот, кто соберет больше всего монеток. А в «Фейстафете» нужно захватить фею солнца и удержать ее у себя, пока не кончится время. Во всех этих режимах можно сразиться как в одиночку, так и в мультиплеере.

Remaster

Die Charakterauswahl des Spiels

Dieses Spiel ist ein sogenanntes Remaster, daher wurde der Titel um «Deluxe» ergänzt. Dies bedeutet, dass ein älteres Spiel genommen, die Grafik aufgebessert und auch neuer Inhalt hinzugefügt wird, sowie gegebenenfalls Fehler des Originals aufgebessert werden.

Hier sind alle Punkte aufgelistet, welche Mario Kart 8 von Mario Kart 8 Deluxe unterscheidet.

• Alle DLC-Charaktere aus dem Original sind in der Deluxe-Version kostenfrei integriert.

• In der Deluxe-Version existiert nicht mehr der Mario Kart 8-Wettkampf-Modus, sondern derjenige, den man aus den vorherigen Spielen kennt. Jedoch besitzen alle Charaktere nun fünf Ballons.
• Daher wurden auch einige Wettkampf-Arenen hinzugefügt.
• In der Deluxe-Version wurde der Fahrer Knochentrocken aus Mario Kart DS und Mario Kart Wii als spielbarer Charakter wieder eingeführt.

• Ein neuer Driftboost, welcher nach dem orangefarbenen Drift erscheint. Es braucht eine Weile, bis er erscheint. Die Farbe von ihm ist übrigens lila.
• Im Gegensatz zur Wii U-Version sind alle Charaktere, mit Ausnahme von Gold-Mario, von Anfang an verfügbar.

Mario Kart 8 и Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Deluxe-версия поднимает Mario Kart 8 на уровень выше. Игра работает в 1080р при 60 fps в ТВ-режиме на Switch — это гораздо больше, чем выдавала оригинальная версия (она работала в 720p). Сильно сократилось время загрузки — с 22 секунд до 9. Музыка по-прежнему на высоте, ее можно слушать бесконечно, и она не надоедает даже через пятьдесят часов игры.
Сделано много мелких исправлений, как, например, возможность сменить машину прямо в онлайновом лобби, отсутствие заблокированных персонажей, трасс и кубов, изменение характеристик машин, колес и планеров. Есть множество добавлений: пять новых персонажей; Золотой Марио как костюм для Металлического Марио; два новых предмета — Бу и перо, три новых карта и суперпланер, третий вид дрифта, поворот на 180 градусов, возможность держать два предмета и двойные боксы с бонусами на трассе.
У Wii U было два экрана, Switch, как известно, совсем другая, поэтому во время игры больше не удастся подсматривать за предметами соперников. Теперь бонусы видны только на мини-карте, и то далеко не все.

Bild	Name	Beschreibung
	Item-Box	Die Itembox gibt dem Fahrer bei Berührung ein Item und die Item-box verschwindet. Nach einer Weile erscheinen sie wieder. Welches Item der Fahrer bekommt, hängt davon ab, wie gut der Fahrer ist. Je besser der Fahrer, desto schlechter das Item und umgekehrt.
	Münzen	Münzen tauchen in Mario Kart 8 auch wieder auf! Sie liegen aufgeteilt in manchen Streckenabteilen umher, sind aber auch in der Luft aufsammelbar. Je nach dem, wie viele Münzen man hat, wird man schneller. Laut einigen Spielern soll man alle 50 Münzen ein Kartteil freischalten. Man kann pro Strecke maximal 10 Münzen tragen.
	Banane	Kommt gelegentlich aus Kisten oder Fässern. Allgemeiner Nutzen wird unten erläutert.
	Turbo-Pilz	Kommt gelegentlich aus Kisten, Fässern oder Gumbas. Allgemeiner Nutzen wird unten erläutert.

5. Mario Kart 64 (Nintendo 64)

Барьеры сделаны из камней и деревьев вместо плоских двухмерных блоков, и из земли выступают рампы, по которым можно сойти с проторенной дороги. 3D-графика придала гонкам Mario Kart необходимый объем, которого не было на SNES, и заложила основу для будущих игр серии на долгие годы. Боевой режим на четверых игроков здесь один из лучших, и все же он не так хорош, как в оригинальной игре.
