Yoshi’s woolly world

TriviaEdit

  • Nanashi is taken apart from his real name, Yoshi Nanase, and when you mix the bolded letters around, you get Nanashi.
  • Nanashi’s name is a pun on his number ability, literally meaning «7744».
  • His name also means «nameless».
  • Strange enough, if you add the 7s in Nanashi, you get 14, which is how old he is. Also, if you add the 4s in Nanashis name, you get 8, which if you add 2222 plus 8, that is the timeline where Misane and Mikado are from. (Mikado and Misane are from the year 2230.)
  • Nanashi uses the more masculine pronoun ‘ore’ instead of the more polite pronoun ‘boku’. He says he picked this up from his friends in middle school.
  • Nanashi’s type is a ‘moderate and obedient girl with long hair’.

Yoshi’s Language

Although Yoshi is in many games, he has never been heard talking in formal speech. The possible explanations for this are that he either has no voice or he can only simply make simple noises such as saying his name. There have been a few times where he actually has a speaking part. In the Super Mario World cartoon, he is given a speaking part. This is also the case with a type of Yoshi that players may ride on in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. Later, he is given a speaking part in the Paper Mario series. In these games, The Yoshi species has the ability to speak. In Mario Kart Wii, Yoshi can actually talk in a squeaky voice. He can also be heard speaking in Mario Strikers Charged/Mario Smash Football.

ModesEdit

For each of the three player files available, there are four modes to choose from: Adventure, Mini-games, Time Trial (unlockable) and Options.

AdventureEdit

A long amount of gameplay comes from adventure mode, similarly played out like the original. Throughout the five unique worlds, a different colored Yoshi takes on one out of eight levels, with a mini-boss in Level 4 and a boss in Level 8 of each world. Enemies, items, and coins litter the levels, as well as collectibles. When a Yoshi is hit by an enemy, the baby is knocked loose from his or her back, and the Star Power – the source of the protective bubble that keeps the Toadies from taking the baby – goes down by one star per second. If that number goes down to 0, Toadies take the baby and a life is lost. The star power starts at 10 in each level, and if a baby is recovered with less than 10 stars, the star power automatically goes back to 10 again at a slow recovery rate; the star power maxes out at 30. Groups of 5 stars often come in Winged Clouds and Crates.

MinigamesEdit

There are various Mini-games to be unlocked in Adventure Mode: Tulip-Shooter, (a mini-game where Yoshi must eat enemies and spit them out into a tulip), Flutter Challenge, (a mini-game in which Yoshi must try to flutter-kick as far as possible), Bouncy Maze, (a mini-game where Yoshi must maneuver his way through a simple maze of Bouncies), Speed-Eater, (a mini-game where Yoshi must try to swallow as many enemies as possible), Flip (in which cards can be flipped over to earn 1-ups), and Egg Toss, (a mini-game where Yoshi must hit targets with eggs); all mini-games have a set time limit. Achieving a high score in any mini-game will award the player with a 1-up. Harder versions of all the mini-games can be unlocked by collecting all the Baby Coins in a world.

Time TrialEdit

Unlockable once Adventure mode has been beaten, Time Trial is just like Adventure mode, however the player is timed. The player has one-hundred minutes to finish the game – even when the player presses the Start Button, the time keeps going.

StoryEdit

After the events of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island, Kamek and his evil army of Toadies decide to steal all of the babies in the Mushroom Kingdom, as well as other nearby areas. The Toadies are taking the babies to a mysterious floating castle by Kamek’s lead. The Stork comes in and attacks two Toadies making them drop the babies they are carrying; The two babies then land on Yoshi’s Island. It appears to the Yoshis that these two babies are Baby Mario and Baby Peach.

The Yoshis find the babies, and decide to help them. The Yoshis figure out that Baby Mario, once again, wants to save Baby Luigi and the other babies from Kamek and his Toadies. The Yoshis take the babies with them, and go on an adventure to rescue the kidnapped babies. Later on in the adventure, a group of Ukikis kidnap Baby Peach.

The Yoshis and Baby Mario find another baby, Baby Donkey Kong; The baby ape was somehow left behind when the Toadies were kidnapping all the other babies. With the help of Baby Donkey Kong, Yoshi is able to rescue Baby Peach from the Ukikis. After his helpful act, Baby Donkey Kong joins the team. Quite some time after that event, the Yoshis also find Baby Wario, who like Baby Donkey Kong, was left behind; Baby Wario decides to join the party.

After being with the gang for some time, Baby Wario decides to instead join a team of Bandits, because Wario is very greedy as are the Bandits. It is revealed after beating Priscilla the Peckish that the future Bowser and future Kamek are looking for seven Star children, young children that have magical stars in them. If someone collects all the stars, then he or she will rule the world.

It is soon discovered that Bowser and Kamek are kidnapping the helpless babies in hopes of finding the seven that have stars within them. Kamek, using a crystal ball, checks every baby they have kidnapped (with the exception of Baby Luigi who was hiding) but finds out that none of them have the star inside of them. Bowser grows angry and sends the Toadies to keep looking for more babies.

After the Yoshis continue the adventure, they find Baby Bowser. After a fight between Baby Bowser and Bowser, Bowser threw Baby Bowser out of the castle. Baby Bowser complains to the Yoshis that his future self is stupid, and decides to join the Yoshis, even though the Yoshis are worried that Baby Bowser might suddenly attack them. However, Baby Bowser does not stay for the whole adventure; Later in the game, he leaves with Kamek.

At last, Yoshi and the babies arrive at Bowser’s Castle where all the babies come back to help Yoshi travel through the castle. However, when they finally get to the top of the castle, Baby Bowser tells the Yoshis to leave. However, when they don’t leave, Baby Bowser thinks Yoshi is there to steal his treasure. Baby Bowser fights Yoshi but Yoshi defeats him.

Bowser then comes in the room and is angry at what Yoshi did to his younger self and fights Yoshi but gets defeated, just like his younger self. However, Kamek helps Bowser to become Giant Bowser. Giant Bowser and the four babies with four Yoshis fight against the Giant Bowser using giant eggs and are eventually able to defeat him. After Bowser is defeated, Kamek escapes, with four Toadies carrying the defeated body of Bowser right behind him. Baby Bowser decides to escape with Bowser and Kamek too, and holds on to his flying broomstick.

The Yoshis save all the kidnapped babies, and the stork takes all the babies back to their home, except for Baby Wario who is homeless. Supposedly, the Stork adopts Baby Wario and takes him to a raft where Baby Bowser’s treasure ended up. Meanwhile, a flying rock hits Kamek’s broomstick, and Baby Bowser lets go of the broomstick. He falls down right in his treasure where Baby Wario and Baby Bowser start arguing about who gets to keep the treasure.

It is then revealed that the seven Star Children were: Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Baby Peach, Baby Donkey Kong, Baby Wario, Bowser and a newborn Yoshi, who had just hatched from his Yoshi Egg at the end of the game.

RelationshipsEdit

Mikado AisakaEdit

Mikado is Nanashi’s cousin that suggested Nanashi to come live with him. He and Nanashi are alike in many ways, as commented on by Misane.

Spoilers Below

Mikado turns out to be Nanashi’s future self.

In the Bad End, Nanashi ends up strangling Mikado in the appearance of his future self to death.

Misane Mikoto Edit

Nanashi’s first actual friend. Misane is an important character in the game and in Nanashi’s life as she is the one who encouraged him to go outside. If Misane did not go back to the past, (In her case) Nanashi would probably still be shut inside his and Mikado’s apartment.

Yoshi’s Woolly World received generally positive reviews, receiving a score of 78/100 on Metacritic based on 83 reviews.
GameSpot’s Rob Crossley gave the game a score of 6/10, saying «Some would say that gives Woolly World its inherent accessibility, in that players aren’t forced to take the hard road. But if you want to be fully entertained, the hard road is the only real option. It is your own degree of curiosity, and your compulsive nature, that will determine which route you’ll take.»
IGN’s Daniel Krupa gave the game a moderately positive review, saying «It’s incredibly familiar, but the imaginative and attractive art style makes it feel fresh and appealing. Outside of those great few levels, Woolly World is a more forgettable and fragmented experience. Cool mechanics are cooked up, but they’re dropped into levels which never realise their full potential and fixate more on unearthing frustrating collectibles.»

Nintendo Life’s Thomas Whitehead stated that the game featured «some of Nintendo’s best co-op platforming» with «clever, witty stage design» and «gorgeous» visuals, but found that boss fights were «repetitive and disappointing».

Sales

Yoshi’s Woolly World launched in Japan with roughly 31,000 physical copies sold, and after two weeks, 43,000 copies were sold. In the UK, it entered the charts in fourth place. As of March 31, 2016, the game had worldwide sales of 1.37 million copies.
The Nintendo 3DS version of the game sold 80 percent of its initial shipment in Japan, but only entered the UK charts in twentieth place.

FormsEdit

A Yoshi can morph into several different types of vehicle with the help of a Morph Bubble. Morph Bubbles appear many times in the game. There are three forms:

  • Helicopter: The helicopter is able to make a Yoshi fly for a short time.
  • Submarine: The submarine can make a Yoshi swim underwater (Yoshis in the game, don’t swim underwater).
  • Mole Tank: This tank makes a Yoshi able to dig through small openings and dirt.

To turn back into a Yoshi, the Yoshi must either touch a Yoshi Block or wait until a little while and time runs out, as the forms only last for a few seconds. However, when the Yoshi is turned back into a dinosaur, he will also return to the Morph Bubble if he fails to reach the Yoshi block in time. Additional forms from the original game like the train and the car forms were cut out from this sequel.

TriviaEdit

  • This game does not feature Baby Mario.
  • Yarn Yoshi was actually not shown at E3 2013 because, as confirmed in a British issue of Official Nintendo Magazine, it was not ready to be shown off yet.
  • The digital version requires 7982.8 MB (approx. 7.8 GB) of memory to be installed.
  • Yoshi’s Woolly World was originally called Yarn Yoshi. It’s name was changed to avoid the game being connected to the Kirby game of a similar name.

Woolly Yoshi Amiibos.

  • The game also has special Woolly Yoshi Amiibo! It’s rumored that more colors will come out but the colors available to buy at the moment are Light Blue, Pink and the original Green Yoshi. There is also a giant Yarn Yoshi amiibo.
  • The game somewhat resembles World 3 of Yoshi’s Story.

TriviaEdit

  • In Super Mario World 2, the used plural for Yoshi is Yoshies, but in most games after, a group of Yoshi is just Yoshi or Yoshis.
  • Brown Yoshi has not appeared in any Mario games for 19 years. One possible reason is that Orange Yoshi is his replacement but it is also rumored that Brown Yoshi was meant to be an Orange Yoshi but the graphics weren’t clear enough to see the color.
  • Yoshi was originally meant to be a tame Koopa. That would mean that instead of Mario riding a dinosaur, he would be riding on a Koopa’s back. The developers decided to change it to a Dinosaur because it was considered to work better with Mario’s sprite.

Gameplay

In single-player mode, the sole playable character is Yoshi. The game is similar to Kirby’s Epic Yarn, which was also developed by Good-Feel. Yoshi’s Woolly World is in 2.5D. There is a multiplayer feature in the game.

The heart point system from Yoshi’s Story returns as well. Gameplay involves Yoshi overcoming obstacles and solving puzzles by weaving and unraveling yarn throughout the game, which is also similar to Kirby’s Epic Yarn.

Unlike previous Yoshi games, when Yoshi eats enemies, they turn into yarn balls rather than eggs. Big Yarn balls can go through multiple enemies and platforms.

amiibo Functionality

Using one of the Yoshi amiibo, the player can summon a Yoshi to help them in a level. They are controlled from the same inputs as the player, Like A Double Cherry. Like another player, they can be eaten and turned into a yarn ball to get to higher places.

The Yarn Yoshi amiibo can be written to to save patterns for Yoshi.

All the amiibo except for the Pokemon can be scanned in for a special costume of that figure.

GameplayEdit

Yoshi’s Story gameplay

The gameplay will seem familiar to fans of Yoshi’s Island on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The main forms of attacking are eating the enemy, jumping on them, or throwing Yoshi Eggs at them. The flutter jump also makes a return, which allows the dinosaur to jump at high distances. To produce eggs, Yoshi must eat an enemy, or repeatedly hit an Egg Block which will release eggs from said block.

To beat a level, Yoshi must eat a certain amount of fruit. Each colored Yoshi has his own special fruit that will both raise his health more than other fruits, and give him more points. The color of the fruit corresponds to the color of the Yoshi; for example, Yellow Yoshi likes bananas. Some Yoshis share a favorite fruit, like Red and Pink Yoshi, who both like apples. All Yoshis love the melon fruit.

Описание и способности Править

Йоши является одним из самых известных героев Грибного королевства. Его родина — остров, на котором живут другие динозавры Йоши (англ. Yoshi’s Island).

Yoshi’s Story»).

BabiesEdit

New to the sequel at certain spots are Stork Stops, which let Yoshis change babies, providing different unique abilities:

  • Baby Mario: M Blocks become tangible, providing stepping stones. A Yoshi can also dash at a great speed, allowing the Yoshi to escape from certain enemies. Yoshi can flutter far and normally.
  • Baby Peach: With the parasol, Yoshi is able to flutter his way further and a bit higher, but also a bit shorter than Mario. The parasol can fly wind currents up or down; the eggs cannot bounce off walls.
  • Baby Donkey Kong: He can climb vines and chains, carrying Yoshi with him. He can also do a DK Dash Attack, defeating most enemies. His eggs don’t bounce, but they go faster and create a miniature explosion that can grab more coins and even defeat enemies or activate winged clouds just blocked off by solid wall.
  • Baby Wario: He is accompanied by a magnet that attracts coins facing it (even through solid walls) and can move Magnet Blocks and Magnet Platforms. His eggs will bounce off of walls.
  • Baby Bowser: He can breathe fire, but Yoshi doesn’t use his tongue to swallow any enemies. Often, though, his fire blast is the equivalent of an egg, being able to break winged clouds and destroy dirt walls as well as melting ice, but his blasts don’t bounce off walls.

VehiclesEdit

Yoshis can also hop into or onto various vehicles. There are five vehicles:

  • Kangaroo: The Kangaroo hops on its own, but pressing and holding left or right tells which way the Kangaroo should go, and how far it should go. Also, holding the A button will let the Kangaroo float.
  • Stilts: Hopping on stilts allows the Yoshi to walk around in the same manner as the Stilt Guy does.
  • Carts: Hopping in a cart makes it roll along a track on its own. Players cannot change the direction.
  • Skis: Found in some ice-and-snow levels, players cannot change the direction of skis; however jumping is possible.
  • Rocket: Some huts lead to space launch pads, allowing Yoshi to hop into a rocket and blast into space. Pressing left and right turns the rocket and Y gives extra thrust.

Reception and Legacy

Since his debut in 1990, Yoshi has received positive reception and is considered an icon of Nintendo, as well as being one of the main mascots. Yoshi’s popularity has spawned into a successful spin-off with the classic Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island. His spin-off contains several main games, puzzles, platforms, and sequels. Yoshi has also been shown in a myriad of merchandise such as toys, memorabilia, and even Pogs.

Yoshi has been referenced and featured in many shows, and movies such as The Simpsons, Robot Chicken, Recess, Steven Universe, The Big Bang Theory, Ready Player One, and more. Yoshi appears in the 1993 film Super Mario Bros. as a small dinosaur. He also appears in a DIC Canadian animated series based off Super Mario World in 1991. There have even been possibilities stating Yoshi will soon appear along with the other main Mario characters in the MACY’S Thanksgiving Parade.

Super Smash Bros.

Yoshi has appeared in every game dating from the first game, Super Smash Bros. to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Yoshi’s moveset has been kept the same throughout all games with very minor tweaks.
