Musical themes[edit | edit source]

«Wakka’s Theme» was composed by Nobuo Uematsu. He is the only main character whose theme is not featured in the game’s original soundtrack. It is one of several extra songs that can only be earned in .

«Although I don’t remember exactly because it was quite a long time ago—in the early stages of game development process, many songs are created based on visualization of different game scenes,» music director Keiji Kawamori has explained. «At that time, I believe we decided to go with another track that was better suited for the scene. As a result, this track was ultimately not used.»

«Wakka’s Theme» was arranged by Uematsu for Final Fantasy X HD Remaster and is available not only via Luca’s Sphere Theater, but on the soundtrack as well.

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Numerous areas of Luca have of words in written on the backgrounds. The blitzball stadium has logos that spell «NK Travels» and «BBC» (possible in-game blitzball sponsor and TV network), the Luca theater has signs that spell «Gilventure» (it may have been initially intended to be an auction house, as the flags on either side of the causeway leading towards the sphere theater say «auction hall»), and the bar where Auron is thought to be has a menu with a list of items in Spiran script, including whiskey, beer, wine, cocktail and nuts. When in Luca the first time Yuna tells Tidus she heard Auron is in a cafe and they set out to look for him. There is a location in Luca Square labeled «Cafe» in Spiran script, however the player can only enter the establishment with the sign that reads «Bar». Tidus and Yuna didn’t find Auron because they looked in the wrong place.

Approaching dock number 4, a dolphin can be seen swimming in the sea.

Seymour brings two Guado bodyguards and before the tournament they are with Mika’s entourage next to the ship from Bevelle. The bodyguards disappear from their post during the tournament, and don’t return. Later, it is shown Guado can summon fiends out of pyreflies. Luca Stadium is swarmed by fiends during the tournament, and it is implied it was orchestrated by Seymour to show his power as a summoner and garner goodwill by saving the people at the stadium. When Seymour is seen again at the north end of Mi’ihen Highroad, his bodyguards are with him.

Despite the fall of Yevon in Final Fantasy X-2, the banners around the Luca dock still sport the symbol of Yu Yevon.

Abilities[edit | edit source]

Mastering Warrior requires 740 Ability Points. Swordplay can be accessed outside of the Warrior dressphere by equipping the accessory or the Garment Grid. Yuna has access to her Swordplay abilities through the Mascot dressphere.

The Warrior’s Sentinel learned for 20 AP lets the use take less physical damage until their next turn (which is delayed). The user remains immobile until their ATB bar refills and all physical attacks cause only 1 HP damage, but full damage is still taken from magic. Its Assault casts Berserk, Haste, Shell, and Protect on the party and is learned for 100 AP after learning Sentinel.

Warrior learns only one auto-ability: .

In the International + Last Mission and HD Remaster versions, creatures equipped with the Warrior dressphere gain SOS Protect and Power Break if they have a physical attack available.

Story[edit | edit source]

Final Fantasy Xedit | edit source

Rikku’s fear of lightning.

The party crosses the plains on Yuna’s pilgrimage to Zanarkand. Rikku is reluctant to pass the plains due to a severe case of astraphobia, eventually becoming so terrified she collapses on the ground and seizes Tidus by the leg. They camp at the travel agency where Yuna books a room to herself. Hearing voices emanating from her room Tidus becomes curious, but when he tries to eavesdrop he falls into Yuna’s room as the door was not closed. Yuna was watching the sphere given to her by Jyscal Guado’s unsent form, and makes up her mind to marry Seymour. Yuna leaves the room and Wakka chastises Tidus for spying on Yuna.

Final Fantasy X-2edit | edit source

Following the start of the Eternal Calm, the Al Bhed have repaired the lightning towers to make the area safe for travelers, although the repairs have not completely stabilized them. Cid comes to the Thunder Plains after being admonished by Yuna, Rikku, and Paine at the Zanarkand Ruins, and spends his time in a silent reverie. The girls may also run into Lian and Ayde on the Thunder Plains in the northern section.

The clouds parting.

After Spira falls into turmoil the leaders of the three leading factions of the world go missing causing further conflict. The Gullwings want to do something to pacify the citizens of Spira and organize the «1000 Words» concert where Yuna is to sing on the deck of the Celsius on the Thunder Plains. They get Tobli from the Moonflow to promote the event and gather a crowd. A fiend has appeared and to snack on the spectators, but the Gullwings slay it before it can cause trouble.

Yuna begins her concert, and while performing, her Songstress dressphere interacts with the sphere display Shinra had made for the concert, displaying Lenne’s final memories with Shuyin for everyone to see. Lenne’s spirit appears by Yuna’s side and joins in a duet with her, before disappearing. The storm ceases, the only recorded moment of it happening; the clouds have parted and the sun shines down on the barren plains. Yuna is emotionally drained after the experience and retreats to the Celsius’s cabin, and by the time she awakes, the storm has resumed. Now knowing of Lenne’s true feelings, Yuna decides to descend to the Farplane and find Shuyin to tell him how much Lenne had loved him, in hopes of bringing a peaceful end to the Vegnagun conflict.

The Gullwings can return to the Thunder Plains only to find it infested with fiends due to the sphere waves from the concert. After they defeat fiends at nine towers, the lightning isn’t stopping and they investigate the tenth and final tower, where the Humbaba appears. After slaying the beast, a hole appears and an Al Bhed lets them in the newly discovered cave where they rescue Cid and bring him on board their airship.

Quests[edit | edit source]

Final Fantasy Xedit | edit source

Meeting Wantzedit | edit source

The appearance of Wantz on Mt. Gagazet is missable, and if the player does not speak to him on their first visit he will not appear in Macalania to sell the four-slotted equipment. After talking to Wantz on Mt. Gagazet, he will be found at the entrance to Macalania Woods from the Thunder Plains (Macalania Woods — South), after obtaining the Fahrenheit and completing the mandatory visit to Bevelle’s Highbridge.

Wakka’s minigame.

Wakka must hit a target with his blitzball to open a new path within the caves.

Button minigameedit | edit source

Tidus, Rikku and Wakka must swim into three buttons corresponding to their Sphere Grid color scheme—blue for Tidus, green for Rikku and orange for Wakka—to open the path to the Zanarkand Ruins.

Dark Animaedit | edit source

Main article: Dark Anima

In the International, PAL and HD Remaster versions, Dark Anima can be fought at the entrance after the player has control of the airship. Dark Anima will appear after completing the Target minigame again. This is available after viewing the campfire scene at start of Zanarkand Ruins.

Each failed attempt triggers a battle composed of all found in the Mountain Cave in a strict order, starting with Bandersnatch’s group, finishing with Behemoth, and then back to Bandersnatch. The player can exploit this by failing repeatedly to capture the enemies or to receive gil, items, and experience.

Final Fantasy X-2edit | edit source

Conversation with Ronsoedit | edit source

In Chapters 1 and 2, when the player talks to certain Ronso and a choice window pops up, choosing ‘correct’ answers will affect the optional boss battle with Garik and his Ronso Youths in Chapter 3. Choosing the correct answer when talking to Kimahri in Chapter 2 will also grant a scene in which he gives the Gullwings the Trainer dressphere in Chapter 3.

Question Response
Chapter 1
«Ronso youth grown horns of hatred for Guado.» You have to learn to deal with these things!
«Must ask High Summoner Yuna: Find Lian and Ayde.» Leave it to the Gullwings!
«Garik know Yuna save Spira, but Ronso not saved yet.» We’ll take care of Lian and Ayde.
«Many Ronso lost lives in battle to defend High Summoner Yuna.» I will never forget their sacrifice.
«Guado leave Guadosalam. Guado plan dark schemes!» I’m sure you’re right.
«Ronso grief deeper than mountain snow.» I can imagine how you must feel…
«Never forgive Seymour, never forgive Guado!» I wouldn’t forgive them either.
«Change will come to Ronso, too.» A change for the better, I hope.
Chapter 2
«Kimahri must stop fight. But Kimahri not wise enough.» You have to figure this out on your own.
«Worry is great burden on Elder’s shoulders.» He does seem very tired.
«Garik avenge murdered Ronso.» What if the Guado retaliate?
«Guado is source of much chaos!» Maybe the Guado really are to blame.
«Guado must die for Ronso future!» And what of the Guado?
«Fight Guado!» Please, try to think about it some more.
«Guado will escape us!» Then… there won’t be anyone left to fight.
«Sphere hunters are problem.» They should take better care of the mountain.

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Both Final Fantasy VII Ultimania Omega and the Final Fantasy X-2 Ultimania, suggest that Shinra of Final Fantasy X-2 has a connection to the company of the same name in Final Fantasy VII.

Kazushige Nojima has said the following:

Director of Final Fantasy VII, Yoshinori Kitase, has commented on this, saying Shinra in Final Fantasy X-2 was created by Kazushige Nojima who thought it might be good if people would imagine that Shinra would grow up and start the Shinra company. In an interview with EDAMAME Arcade Channel, Kitase confirmed that the world of Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy X are connected.

In an interview with a French Final Fantasy website Finaland Nojima commented on the link thusly: «This story is a bit of a joke. When we created FFX-2, we wanted to create something, a totally new world. Except that when I created it, I realized that it looked a lot like FFVII… But without realizing it. Afterwards, when it was officially said in Ultimania, it took a completely gigantic proportion when it was just an anecdote.»

In Final Fantasy VII Remake a photo of the Shinra company’s founders includes a man wearing the same mask as Shinra. According the «Secrets» chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake Ultimania, the man’s mask is indeed supposed to be a reference to the Shinra of Final Fantasy X-2.
