Yo-kai Watch
One summer day while trying to catch bugs for a summer project, Nate or Katie (depending on which character the player is using) receive a present-day model of the Yo-kai Watch (which also differs depending on the character) courtesy of a freed Whisper, who instructs them to use its light to uncover Yo-kai. They uncover Buhu in order to begin combat, which began a series of misadventures that lead to the discovery of a diabolical plot.
After the player defeats the would-be usurper McKraken, the Yo-kai Watch fades along with the Yo-kai out of the character’s sight as the seal transports all Yo-kai back into the Yo-kai World, though the Yo-kai Watch and all Yo-kai eventually return.
Yo-kai Watch 2
Nate’s Yo-Kai Watch
One night, Kin and Gin (with Bronzlow appearing as well in Psychic Specters) arrive over Nate or Katie’s house while they were sleeping and watched the Yo-kai Watch vanish, along with the person’s memories of meeting the Yo-kai.
The next day, the protagonist finds the Yo-kai Watch in the Memory Shop. The shop owner offers them to sell the Watch for a small amount of money, then to use it at the Crank-a-kai outside. They buy one of the capsules and drops it aside, revealing Whisper. The Yo-kai Watch restores the memories of both the protagonist and Whisper, including memories of Jibanyan. When the protagonist and Whisper reunite with Jibanyan, the Yo-kai Watch restores Jibanyan’s memories as well.
Katie’s Yo-kai Watch
After travelling 60 years into the past, the protagonist learns from Hovernyan about the Yo-kai Watch Model Zero. Whisper then explains the normal model was created by Steve Jaws. Sometime later, the protagonist gives Nathaniel/Kenny the main piece needed to finish the Yo-kai Watch Model Zero. Nathaniel/Kenny then entrusts the protagonist with the watch.
Yo-kai Watch 3
When his mother got inspirited by Cornfused after Nate finds her misplaced glasses, he discovers that his Yo-kai Watch can’t operate in BBQ. Moping at the failure in his room, Whisper soon gives him the Yo-kai Watch Model U, which he traded in the Medallium to get to replace the Yo-kai Watch, allowing Nate to see ‘Merican Yo-kai. Hailey Anne Thomas later obtains her Yo-kai Watch Model U2 in the same manner she did in the anime, where it was through Usapyon’s machinations that she got it outside the store, as the barcode on the box was illegitimate.
When Steve Jaws came to Nate’s rescue after losing to The EXecutor, he gave Nate the Yo-kai Watch Dream in order to defeat him.
Mark Orckerberg later invites Nate, Hailey Anne, and several Yo-kai to his building, where all of the Yo-kai Watch models have been gathered and put on display. At the end of the chapter, Hailey Anne gets her own Yo-kai Watch Dream.
During a mission in Dukesville, Nate temporarily lends his watch to a local so that she can see a Yo-kai, and she returns the watch to him shortly afterwards. Similarly, Hailey Anne lends her watch to Professor Hughley in order to allow him to see Usapyon.

Updates
Before the game’s release, Akihiro Hino said that there would be an undisclosed number of new Yo-kai added to the game, distributed through both free and paid updates. The website further updated this, with them confirming monthly which Yo-kai would be added to the game.
August Update
There was a free update on August 9th, 2019, which added a new location called Yoriku Kokigan which became available after finishing the main storyline, with Boss Yo-kai Raidenryu. The update also included over 18 returning and new befriendable Yo-kai.
Yo-kai Watch 4++

There is a paid expansion called Yo-kai Watch 4 ++ (Japanese: 妖怪ウォッチ4 ++(ぷらぷら) Yōkai Wotchi Fō Pura Pura), that was released on December 5, 2019, as a separate digital download and physical release. Buying the physical release of Yo-kai Watch 4 ++ comes with a Yo-kai Y Medal of Jinpei Jiba and Jibanyan.
It introduced major new content for the game, including access to Blossom Heights, a new multiplayer mode based on Yo-kai Watch Blasters, and several new and returning Yo-kai to befriend. There was also a new area added to the Yo-kai World, called «Hell’s Kitchen».
Trivia
- In the first trailer for the movie, the Y Medals had Shadowside Tribes on them, which was later removed in the released movie.
- This film makes several references to the original Yo-kai Watch franchise:
- Jinpei and Bakera make similar dance moves to the Gera Gera Po Song while in the entrance assembly.
- Matarou pretends to be Noway when the YSP Club is formed.
- The scene with Kinya and Emma Daiouji running to hug each other is reminiscent of a similar scene with Nate and Jibanyan in The Spooky Intersection of the Yo-kai Watch anime series.
- When Jinpei uses his fork to try and eat the food at the fancy restaurant, he stabs it fast and says «Nyanyanyanyanya» in the same vein as Jibanyan’s Paws of Fury Soultimate Move.
- The scene with Matarou using a weapon to defeat Tamago is reminiscent of a similar scene with Touma using the Fudou Raimeiken to defeat Oniou Rasen in Yo-kai Watch Shadowside the Movie: The Return of the Oni King.
- This is the second Yo-kai Watch movie to have blood, where it appears in Tamago’s introduction screen.
- This is the second piece of Yo-kai Watch media to have self-insert guest stars, with the first originally being Yo-kai Pandanoko of the Yo-kai Watch anime series.

- The scene where Gakkouger Y stabs its sword into the meteor resembled the scene from M05 where Yasha Enma was doing a similar thing to Soranaki.

Biology
Appearance
Venoct has snow white skin and golden eyes, with long and dark teal hair that covers most of his face, tied into a ponytail with a sky blue ponytail holder. He wears a dark purple kimono with a black overcoat hanging off his waist, tied with a white belt. He wears black shin covers and fingerless gloves, as well as straw sandals. Around his neck’s an azure, wisp-like scarf with tails resembling dragon heads. He is 140 cm tall (About 55 inches).

In Venoct’s Revenge 4: Rubeus J, Venoct was a human with long black hair which was parted covering one eye, hazel eyes and slightly tanned skin and his dark purple kimono which has his sleeves torn off and tied with a white belt with the cute bow-tie and has black arm warmers, as well as straw sandals.
Personality
Extremely serious, stern and stoic, Venoct’s a fighter through and through, and doesn’t make friends easily. However he is also extremely honorable and would never break the few bonds he’s forged. Even his initial interaction with others is cold and standoffish, with him rebuffing any ideas that he might be their ally. He also seems to not like being a Yo-kai due to his tone of voice. Venoct is staunchly loyal to the late ruler of Springdale’s Yo-kai World, Ancient Enma, and he agreed to protect his son, Lucas, by erasing his memories and blending him into the human world.
While he shares some traits with his counterpart Kyubi, he lacks that Yo-kai’s arrogance and manipulative nature. His personality is left largely intact in the transition to the anime, where his serious disposition makes him seem very intense when compared to the more comical characters in the show.
In the anime, during his quest for revenge, Venoct initially annoyed Nate and Whisper with his constant appearances.
Yo-kai Watch 3: Sukiyaki
Yo-kai Watch 3: Sukiyaki is an updated version of Sushi and Tempura that was released exclusively in Japan, and was the basis for the international releases of Yo-kai Watch 3 (which was a modified Sukiyaki v4.0).
- Yo-kai Watch Blasters T is a new evolved version of the Yo-kai Watch Blasters mode from Yo-kai Watch 2. The player can go out and find hidden treasures in Egyptian or temple-themed dungeons and fight against giant Boss Yo-kai.
- Four God Yo-kai will make their appearance if Sukiyaki is connected with Sushi and Tempura.
- Much like Yo-kai Watch 2: Psychic Specters, you will have an instance in the game, where it is of choosing between Sushi (Koma Knomads) or Tempura (Tomnyan

Tribes
- Main article: Yo-kai Tribes
Each Yo-kai are assigned a specific Tribe after they become one, which is judged on their personality and abilities. The Tribe cannot be changed, unless their evolution has a different Tribe or can be changed freely with Originyan in the Build-a-Nyan application.
They are divided into eight different tribes, which are the Brave, Mysterious, Tough, Charming, Heartful, Shady, Eerie and Slippery tribes. Over time, additional tribes have appeared through other uses such as Wicked, which is created from the forces of the Wicked Executives, Enma which applies exclusively to Yo-kai that hails from those affiliated with Lord Enma and Wandroid, that only appears on Sighborg Yo-kai.
A secondary Tribe that applies to Yo-kai in possession of Arks is also known to exist. Unlike the original Tribes, they are mostly based on the Yo-kai’s mythological background. Six different ones that apply to regular Yo-kai are Onnen, Goriki, Omamori, Mononoke, Tsukumono and Uwanosora. An additional six Tribes exist for a select amount, depending on what they are, which are Mikado, Izana, Oni, Kaima, Shinma and Mikakunin.
In the video games, each of the tribes has their own strengths and rarities, and if two or more Yo-kai of the same tribe are adjacent to each other, they will receive a Tribe Unity bonus.

Development
The game was first teased in the March 2015 issue of Japanese magazine Corocoro, along with a video game adaptation of the Yo-kai Watch Blasters mode. The article stated that more information will be would announced at their Level-5 Vision 2015 event.
It was fully unveiled at the Level-5 Vision 2015, as well as the «second season» branding of the franchise. They revealed that Hailey Anne Thomas and Usapyon would be introduced as playable protagonists, and a brand new American-inspied setting called St. Peanutsburg as well as ‘Merican Yo-kai. They also confirmed that the game would be receiving four major updates.
Later on in the year, Level-5 announced that the game was aiming for a Summer 2016 release in Japan.
During the April 2016 issue of CoroCoro, the version names of Yo-kai Watch 3 were called «Sushi» and «Tempura». Additionally, a new tribe, the «Wandroid Tribe» made its debut in the game and as well showing a new Yo-kai in it: Sighborg Y.
Level-5 revealed new information about the game after its uncovering in the CoroCoro magazine. A third, definitive version came out later in December 2016 entitled «Sukiyaki,» complete with new post-game quests and story-lines, and an update to the former two versions, and the addition of a «Busters Treasure» mode.
Two full-scale content updates released later on through August 2017.
Localization

Nintendo’s international Twitters revealed in late September 2018 that the game was set for a localized release in February 2019 for North America, Winter 2018 for Europe, and Summer 2018 for Australia and New Zealand.
Due to Nintendo referring to Yo-kai Watch 3 as a single game and the logo using colors and aspects of Sukiyaki‘s, fans speculated that the game’s versions would be merged together for the worldwide release. This was confirmed when the game went up for pre-order in October 2018 as a single game listing.
Like the first game, the localized version of Yo-Kai Watch 3 was released as one game, with no other versions available, unlike its predecessor. Yo-Kai Watch 3’s reveal trailer showed that this version of the game would include the Blasters T mode, which was exclusive to Yo-Kai Watch 3: Sukiyaki in japan. This would later be confirmed on Nintendo’s English website.
In its Japan release, the three versions of Yo-kai Watch 3 (Yo-Kai Watch Tempura, Sushi, and Sukiyaki) all had exclusive Yo-kai that could only be obtained by linking with other versions of the game. The player may link with different versions of Yo-kai Watch 2 and Yo-kai Watch Blasters to obtain these exclusive Yo-kai in-game, as there are no separate versions this time around.
To take a safer approach after the second game and its versions, many fans believe that the decision to release the games as one single version was made to adjust it, according to the sales numbers in Europe and America.
In a reply to a tweet asking about how the localization would become, the official Yo-kai Watch account tweeted that the game itself was described to be «Sukiyaki+», or a Gold Edition of the game, and will contain all of the Yo-kai that are in all three versions of the game. In short, it was revealed to be a modified version of Sukiyaki v4.0 upon release.

Whisper handing Nate the Yo-kai Watch in Yo-kai Are Real!
The circumstances that lead Nate into obtaining the Yo-kai Watch in the anime are fairly different. In Yo-kai Are Real!, Nate returns to his house with Whisper and he finds his parents arguing. Because of that, Whisper notes that’s «her» doing. After Nate wonders what is he talking about, Whisper gives him the Yo-kai Watch and instructs him to shine its light onto his parents; Nate finds Dismarelda this way.
In Yo-kai Nosirs, Nate attempts to summon Jibanyan against the Nosirs, but he puts the medal in the wrong way, and doesn’t figure out the problem until it is pointed out to him by the enemies. Nate thanking the Nosirs puts them in shock, as they don’t usually get complimented, so they show their gratitude by having the leader fuse with the Yo-kai Watch, now alerting Nate whenever he inserts a medal the wrong way.
After acquiring the new model, Nate tries to use it and learns he must use Z Medals to get it to work. Afterwards, Jibanyan gives Nate his three new medals and Nate finally uses it successfully. Accidentally, the Yo-kai Watch Model Zero ends inside Whisper’s mouth, and Nate discovers he can switch between watch models by diving his hand into Whisper’s mouth.
In Usapyon Is Here!, Hailey Anne Thomas finds a Yo-kai Watch Model U Prototype, labelled as a «Space Watch» in a hobby shop and decides to buy it after she finds out that it can communicate with aliens. Sometime later and believing it was a fake, she finds an unknown Yo-kai using its light during class, sparking a new interest on the watch. At home, using the watch, she finds Usapyon, who tells her about the Yo-kai Watch Model U and gives his Yo-kai Medal to test it.
In A New Watch!, following the announcement of Steve Jaws’ stepping down from Yopple, the newly appointed CEO Mark Orckerberg unveils the Yo-kai Watch Model U and describes some of its features before ending his exposition claiming it was actually a prototype and handed to notable people in the Yo-kai World only, which makes Whisper feel angered, who set himself into going to purchase it. However, Hidabat emerges from Nate’s closet with one of the prototypes, which it got to it’s friendship with Orckerberg, as evidenced by a photo taken on Nate’s room, and offers it to Nate, as the bat Yo-kai cannot use it. Nate tests his new watch with Jibanyan’s old medal successfully, but expresses some lack of interests about its other features due to Cornfused possessing him.
In Christmas Blackout! Time for a Yo-kai Watch Update!, the two Watches get upgraded. Nate’s watch becomes the light-blue Yo-kai Watch Model U while Hailey Anne’s watch becomes the yellow Yo-kai Watch Model U2.
Yo-kai Watch Shadowside
It was revealed that every Yo-kai Watch model was destroyed since the events of the original series, under orders from the new Yo-kai ruler Lord Ananta. However, in the wake of the approaching Onimaro invasion, Enma and Mitsue Arihoshi reveal that an ancient object similar to a Yo-kai Watch, created by the Genyou Tribe, originally known as the Elda Magic Mirror and re-purposed into the Yo-kai Watch Elda, was kept hidden and awaiting to accept a user in order to serve as a means to counter the Onimaro menace. After a series of failed 443 attempts in order for the Yo-kai Watch Elda to accept a human user, Natsume Amano receives it from Whisper and becomes the first person to hold a Yo-kai Watch after 30 years.
After Natsume succeds on removing the darkness on Touma Tsukinami’s heart in order to save him from death by the rejection of the Kigan Gear, this artifact becomes the Ogre Seal Orb Mirror, which Enma renames as the Yo-kai Watch Ogre, and Touma is allowed to carry it in order to counter the effects of the Onimaro Possession and fight Oniou Rasen.
In SS001, the Yo-kai Watch Elder accepts another user in addition to Natsume, namely her younger brother, Keisuke Amano.
In SS013, for having proved his value to the Genjuu, Akinori Arihoshi receives the Animas Heaven-Bearing Mirror from Suzaku, and renames it as the Yo-kai Watch Animas.
Etymology
«Kyubi» (Japanese: 九尾 Kyūbi) translates as «nine tails».
Origin
Kyubi is based on a kyūbi-no-kitsune (Japanese: 九尾の狐) or nine-tailed kitsune (supernaturally-endowed fox). As they grow more powerful with the passing of years, kitsune grow a new tail with each century of age: once they grow their ninth and last tail, their fur will turn white or golden, and their power will reach its maximum. Kyūbi-no-kitsune is gifted with immense wisdom, powerful magic abilities, and can even see and hear everything in the world. They’re especially proficient in weaving illusions, and wielding spirit flames called kitsune-bi («fox fire»). Like tanuki, all kitsune can also shape-shift, though they prefer to take on the appearance of beautiful men and women.

In the Yo-kai World, Soranaki is destroying the world while Enma and Nurarihyon both fight their way to stop it. When Soranaki says that everything is under his control, and that their attacks are useless against him, Enma powers up into his awoken form and attempts to finish him off with his Soultimate. Soranaki , however, manages to freeze time before Enma could use his Soultimate, turning him into stone and disintegrating him, leaving Nurarihyon behind, who goes to find help.

In the anime
In Kyubi: Operation Heartbreak, Kyubi arrives in the human world on a mission to collect the hearts of humans. At this point, Kyubi has already charmed 999 women and only needs one more to become a senior Kyubi. Then, he spots Katie and decides to make her the next target. Over the course of his attempts, however, he ends up falling for Katie.
In Kyubi: Operation Amusement Park, he once again fails to attract Katie.
In The New Yo-kai Watch, Kyubi was seen in Yo-kai-lifornia where he was among the Yo-kai waiting in line for the release of the new Yo-kai Watch Zero.
Nate, Whisper, and Jibanyan formally meet Kyubi in Westward Yo!, where Directator forcibly involves him in his film interpretation of «Journey to the West.» Kyubi gives Nate his Yo-kai Medal as part of his introduction.
Kyubi appears in Cool Yo-kai Showdown! alongside Dandoodle after Nate expresses a desire to be popular with girls like a model. After the two popular Yo-kai argue over what characteristics would get Nate noticed by girls, they have a competition in teaching Nate how to gain a girl’s affections.
Kyubi is summoned in Yo-kai Watch: The Movie during the final battle, along with the others Yo-kai, fighting against Dame Dedtime and her Wicked servants. He even saved Manjimutt from one of the Wicked, despite burning him in the process, he later revealed to be using his Soultimate move, Inferno, against a Monstrous Dame Dedtime (also known as Dame Demona, and there was a million of them) but the attack was ineffective.
In Yo-kai Grand Prix!, Kyubi teams up with Venoct and Snottle in the Yo-Kar Grand Prix.
Kyubi is summoned in EP129 where he is one of the Yo-kai to impress Zest-a-Minute.
Kyubi appears in Shoutout! Mysterious «Nu» Magazine — «Goatman Edition» to help Hailey to be the Goat man to help Phonius.
